PBA Airlines DC-3 display model airplane. The Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner from the 1930s, manufactured by the Douglas Aircraft Company based in Southern California. The first DC-3 passenger service for American Airlines in 1936 had 21 seats and helped to popularize passenger air travel in the United States, offering speed, good range, reliability and comfort, the DC-3 pioneered many air travel routes and paved the way for the modern American air travel industry. The DC-3 continues to fly in limited commercial and military service, ninety years after the first flight.
