Approximately 375 Kiowas are active, and this single-engine, dual-bladed reconnaissance helicopter has supported US forces globally, including in Haiti, Somalia, and the Gulf of Arabia during Desert Storm and Desert Shield.
In 2002, Kiowas served with NATO's SFOR in Bosnia, and in 2003, 120 were deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom, with 29 helicopters lost. By the end of 2011, the US Army's Kiowa fleet had amassed 750,000 combat hours.
