Personalization

P-51 Mustang Nooky Booky airplane model. Designed as the NA-73 in 1940 upon Britain's request, the P-51 Mustang showed early promise, leading to AAF purchases starting in 1941 for photo reconnaissance and ground support due to its limited high-altitude capabilities. However, in 1942, the adoption of the British Rolls-Royce "Merlin" engine significantly enhanced its performance. By December 1943, Merlin-powered P-51Bs were engaging in combat over Europe.

Tasked with providing high-altitude escorts for B-17 and B-24 bombers, they effectively countered German interceptors. By the end of the war, P-51s had downed 4,950 enemy aircraft in the air, more than any other European theater fighter. The Mustang was deployed in almost every combat zone, including the Pacific, where they accompanied B-29s to Japan from Iwo Jima. From 1941 to 1945, the AAF ordered 14,855 Mustangs, including A-36A dive bombers and F-6 photo reconnaissance variants, with 7,956 being P-51Ds.

Mahogany Wood. Scale: 1/32. Wingspan 15 inches, Length 12 1/4 inches.
