Personalization

Prototype Lockheed L-1011 airplane model. Development of the L-1011 prototype commenced in early 1969, culminating in its maiden flight on November 16, 1970. The selection of Rolls-Royce's advanced RB211 three-shaft engine design initially plagued the TriStar's early career. Rolls-Royce faced bankruptcy in February 1970, primarily due to escalating RB211 development costs, which significantly impacted both Lockheed and the TriStar's sales. The issues were eventually resolved when the British government nationalized Rolls-Royce, ensuring the continuation of engine production. Despite early setbacks, the RB211 became renowned for its reliability and efficiency in service, leading to the creation of various derivatives.

Production ended in 1983 after 250 units were produced. The prototype was eventually sold in 1986 to be dismantled for parts.
