F-100F Super Sabre Wild Weasel

North American F-100F Super Sabre Wild Weasel airplane model. In November 1965, the first Wild Weasel teams were deployed to Southeast Asia, just months after the USAF's initial SA-2 loss in the region. Four F-100Fs were quickly and secretly outfitted with radar-detecting gear. These dedicated crews completed their training amid combat in North Vietnam, launching their inaugural anti-SAM mission on December 1. By February 1966, a second group arrived with three additional modified F-100Fs. One F-100F crew would locate enemy SAM radars using electronic detection, visually confirm targets, then strike with rockets, while accompanying F-105s delivered bombs or rockets. These trailblazers validated the Wild Weasel mission, destroying nine SA-2 sites and protecting strike forces despite losing three aircraft. Their efforts paved the way for the more powerful F-105F Wild Weasel III introduced in mid-1966.
