Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker 350th Air Refueling Squadron airplane model. The original engines of the KC-135A, being products of 1950s technology, fail to meet contemporary standards for fuel efficiency, pollution reduction, and noise levels. The installation of new CFM56 engines not only enhances performance but also significantly improves fuel off-loading capabilities. The upgrade is so effective that two re-engined KC-135Rs can accomplish the workload of three KC-135As. This efficiency stems from the KC-135R's reduced fuel consumption and heightened performance, enabling the tanker to take off with a larger fuel load and transport it further. Consequently, the aircraft can carry more fuel and consume less during a mission, allowing it to transfer a substantially larger amount to receiving aircraft.
