United Airlines 727 airplane model. The Boeing 727-200 made its maiden flight on July 27, 1967, earning certification that November. Northeast Airlines (later Delta) became the launch operator the following month, with demand reaching over 500 aircraft orders. Though constrained by the same fuel capacity as its predecessor, the 727-200 became a commercial triumph. This success led to the Advanced 727-200, which debuted in March 1972 with expanded fuel capacity, enhanced engines, and improved structural strength and noise reduction. The Advanced variant dominated production through 1984.
