CF-105 Arrow
Item Number: 1283Avro CF-105 Arrow airplane model. For the Canadian aviation industry, and Avro Canada in particular, the story of the Avro Canada CF-105 paralleled that of the British Aircraft Corporation TSR.2 in the UK. Both projects were terminated by politicians who, in 1957, believed that missile technology had evolved to the point where manned interceptor aircraft were obsolete. The Arrow completed its first flight on March 25, 1958, and all five units of this model were in use for development and testing when the program was abruptly canceled on February 20, 1959. At that time, all five Arrow 1s, one unflown Arrow 2, and four nearly finished Arrow 2s were destroyed. Regrettably, its capabilities were far superior to any of its American or Soviet counterparts at the time, and arguably, any produced in the subsequent years.
