Cessna T-37 USAF airplane model. The T-37B, first operational in 1959, has undergone upgrades such as improved radio navigation, UHF radio, and redesigned instrument panels. A variety of air forces, including those of Thailand, Greece, Chile, Jordan, Turkey, and Pakistan, use the T-37B. At Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, students from 12 North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries begin their Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training [SUPT] by spending three weeks in academics and physiology training to prepare for flight. In the next phase of primary training, students spend 23 weeks learning aircraft flight characteristics, emergency procedures, takeoff and landing techniques, aerobatics, and formation flying. Primary training also includes flying at night, in instrument conditions, and on cross-country flights.
