Throughout the fighting in Southeast Asia, various models of the Intruders were heavily involved. In February 1970, Grumman debuted the A-6E, an advanced and upgraded version of the A-6A. This version was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney J52-P-8B turbojets, allowing for a maximum speed of 644 mph, a service ceiling of 42,400 ft, a range of 1,011 miles, and an armament capability of 18,000 pounds. The A-6E was the last variant to be produced, with a total of 660 aircraft delivered to the US Navy and Marine Corps. Out of those, 360 were A-6E's, with 120 being new and 240 being converted from A-6A's.
